[[Locale Beckley|Beckley]] is known to many Oxfordshire residents as the place they point their TV aerials, but the reception for the taste buds at the Abingdon Arms should interest them even more. The food here is mostly classic British pub food, but an excellent example of what's good about British cooking. The lunchtime menu had 4 or 5 dishes but we all plumped for bangers and mash. Lovely sausages, creamy mash and plenty of the really rather excellent onion gravy, all for a very reasonable price. Beer is Brakspear, with their bitter and a seasonal ale on hand pumps. If the weather is good, the garden is beautiful, with an outstanding view across the Oxfordshire Downs to Charlton-on-Otmoor. If the weather is not so good, then staying inside with the log fires is probably a good bet, but gentlemen will have to make a trip outside if nature calls! As the reviewer in Oxfordshire Limited Edition said, this "is the kind of pub people are prepared to move house for". Now all I have to do is raise £300,000.
