A friendly local pub somewhat off the beaten track. As might be expected of the pub voted "pub of the year" by the [http://oxfordcamra.org.uk/ Oxford CAMRA] branch, the beer was in excellent condition, with a choice of three real ales on offer. We were given a warm welcome by the landlord and received friendly, no-nonsense service throughout the evening. We didn't get a chance to sample the food. The menu looked to be reasonably priced standard pub fare; pretty uninspiring, but then you're probably not here for the food. The landlord seemed pretty miffed that, despite the pub of the year accolade, they have not got a mention in this year's Good Beer Guide. There is a big poster in the bar asking "what the **** is that all about?" It was a Friday evening when we visited. There were only a handful of people in the pub when we arrived (around 6pm); it got a bit busier later on, but not so much as to bring the single barman out in a sweat. We left shortly after 10pm, leaving only a handful of customers in the bar. The poor trade is probably why the landlord is talking about giving up the pub. That would be a real shame, as small, independent pubs serving well-kept real ales in Oxford are a dying breed. At the time of writing (2007-11-12), their website is unreachable as their domain registration appears to have expired.
