The Cherwell flows into central Oxford between Summertown and Marston and then on past the University Parks. The river runs east of central Oxford, crossing high street between Magdalen College and The Plain before joining the Thames or Isis. Between the University Parks and The Plain the river meanders and splits into a variety of navigable and unnavigable rivers and streams around St. Catherine's College. The river is quite calm except after heavy rain and is where most of the punting in Oxford takes place. |
