Blackwell's is the largest and most famous of the bookshops in Oxford. Founded in 1879 on Broad Street by Benjamin Henry Blackwell the company has expanded in the past century and has a great reputation amoungst academics. The original company is now actually two companies: Blackwell's Bookshops, and Blackwell's Publishing and is headed by by Philip Blackwell, the great grandson of Benjamin Henry Blackwell. Blackwell's now has over 70 shops around the UK.
Confusing, Blackwell's in Oxford is not located on any one single site and is instead comprised of seven shops.

The broad street bookshop is well worth a visit just to see the Norrington room, the largest single display of books for sale in one room anywhere in the world (over 160,000 volumes in 10,000 square feet). There is a coffee republic café on the first floor.
