Note: Late April 2007, this place looks closed and gutted. Maybe permanent, or maybe refurbishment. I'm not really that sure that I can write something here to give Café Orient justice. Hidden away at the end of [[George Street]] under the shadow of the [[Opium Den]], Café Orient is one of my favourite oriental restaurants in Oxford. A simple variety of Chinese and Japanese dishes are on offer and although there is a "specials" board, it very rarely changes. A typical dish is chicken, beef or pork: * Teriyaki * Sweet and Sour * Black Been Sauce * Spring onion and ginger * Szechuan * Japanese style curry * Kung Bo Also worth looking out for are the singapore style noodles. Most dishes cost roughly £4.90 and I seriously doubt you will find a better meal in Oxford at that price. The café is very small and seats only about twenty people so it's best to visit when it's not too busy (busiest between 6.30-7.30ish). Even then it may be worth waiting as the queue never takes too long. The service can be a little slow mainly due to understaffing at busy times. It's always best to pay as soon as they bring you your bill and not wait for them to come back. Simon: The Japanese food isn't Japanese, really. It's more Chinese-influenced Japanese, noodle dishes and the like. Vegetarians are pretty much out of luck here, unfortunately.
