The Oxford Guide - Differences between Version 20 and Version 19 of Cape Of Good Hope

Version 20 Version 19
== Line 0 == == Line 1 ==

Opened on 4th October as a refurbishment of The Pub Oxford, reverting to its original name. This name refers to this pub's position at the end of the peninsula created by Cowley and Iffley Roads.

It is similar to the new style [[Jericho Tavern]], with a fair amount of decent beer (reportedly 4 cask beers including Deuchars IPA and Tim Taylors, and 12 continental draught beers including Paulaner and Franziskaner).

Sadly, on a recent visit here for Sunday lunch, the food was brought out cold, and no attempt was made to rectify this when it was brought to the staff's attention. Let's hope this was just a teething trouble, as otherwise the place is very smart.

Shocking, bar tender considered Leffe to be served as 'any other lager', roast came out overcooked with no condiments, the friends we were sat with who ordered at the same time were served their meals thirty minutes later than ours. Yes the beer menu is impressive, but only when the tender knows how to serve it. Will definitely not go back for food, and if I do for drink I will probably end up giving the bar tender advice on how to serve it.

Shocking as well, a bar tender refused to give out orange juice to a twentyone year old friend at around 10 p.m. because he was convinced her driving licence picture didn´t look like her. Even other documents didn´t convinced him so we were chased (!) out of the bar with rude comments. And all that because of an orange juice.

To add to the problems with this bar, a small group (around 6) of people were refused entry. It seems they are now getting rather picky about who may enter. Just to add some credability, every member of the group was aged over 25, all lead professional lives and most definately don't go to enjoy a drink without a shirt!

Disgraceful!

Maybe we would have had more luck in baseball caps and a tracksuit.

One would think that, with all the competition in the area, employees of the Cape would make some effort - not so. I went there a few months ago on a quiet weeknight, specifically because they offered Wifi - for £7. I paid the £7 somewhat reluctantly, then received literally 2 minutes of Wifi before it cut out, and was charged twice, somehow, as well! I informed the bartenders politely and their response was total disinterest. I suggested a refund might be appropriate (I produced proof of the-duplicate-payment, and demonstrated that I was unable, less than ten minutes after sitting down with my computer, to use the internet). Their response was pure disdain - it was made clear that they were unconcerned and that I was making my silly problem a nuisance. Eventually I decided it was a relatively inexpensive lesson, and that I wouldn't bother to return.

I can confirm the above poor experiences.
