Historical version 2 of Eights Week (view current version)

Major University rowing event of the year.

During 4 days, in 5th week (yes yes, it is called eights week because the boats are called eights, having nine people in them) in Trinity term, students that have been practicing all year get into boats costing several thousand pound each, and row them into each other. This traditional sport draws huge crowds, particularly when the weather is nice. Some members of the crowd watch the racing, most just drink beer and pimms in the boathouses.
