An anonymous commenter (May 2008) tells us that there has been a change of management (not sure when this was), and that the new management have a policy of asking people not to wear hats in the pub because of not wanting "riff raff", and in order that the security cameras can see people's faces.

Booked and had our Christmas lunch here in 2007. The team were great, catering to our every need including providing vegetarian dishes not on the menu for several of our group - approx 35. The
food was excellent and the tables were decorated in the christmas spirit. I would recommend anyone incl. families to eat or drink here. We liked it so much we are looking at booking our Christmas lunch there again.

New reviewer - I
took my mother, who has dementia here recently on a Sunday afternoon. She wanted to wait in the garden as it was such a sunny day. I was nervous about leaving her while I got the drinks, but it wasn't too busy, so, thinking I wouldn't be long I took a chance on it. Ten minutes later I was still waiting, very anxiously. The woman behind the bar was as slow as it is humanly possible to be. There was no sense of urgency, no awareness that people were being kept waiting, and no apology. When, after 10 minutes I complained, I was told that she now had to go and get the last customer his coffee and that this would take even more time (at which point the customer said that he would go back to his table and could wait for the coffee). I complained about the slow service and asked to see the manager and she said she was the manager. I said "so you are responsible for the staff scheduling" and she said "I wasn't to know it would be a sunny day - do you want me to serve you or shall I go and get his coffee". I said (admittedly somewhat impatiently) "just serve me - please". At this point she decided I was being rude and refused to serve me. Wild horses wouldn't drag me back there. (Fortunately Mum was fine). Angela

This pub now has a magician performing close up every Sunday lunchtime. He is great with both adults
and kids and compliments to quality of food and hospitality at the pub.

Monday nights they now have a quiz. The standard of questions is high and the standard of quiz goer is equally high but it is great fun.
THIS IS A COMMENT,I have been to the kings arms many times before it was taken over by new management and enjoyed the food and atmosphere until..
On the 27th of may 2008 i took my wife and four children to the kings Arms Sanford for a meal,Everything was going well we had ordered our meals and was waiting, about half an hour had passed.
The landlord came out and asked me to take off my baseball so the cameras could see my face to which i replied ill turn it round as i haven't done my hair,He said ok.
I went and sat down with the family but was angry about what he said,so i ask to see him.
During our conversation
the landlord said it was policy to not let people wear hats due to not wanting "Riff Raff in his pub" The staff behind the bar should of said so(They new nothing when i asked.
There were no signs about dress code on any doors or walls which makes
me think this was made up,I spent over 70 pound in there tonight and feel i have been DISCRIMINATED for wearing a hat.
But my biggest problem is if he is filming
me then he must be filming the kids as well,Which makes me feel uncomfortable..
i wont be going back there and will let anybody and everyone know not to go there and the reasons why.
EVERYONE SHOULD BE TREATED AS EQUAL WHICH DOESN'T HAPPEN AT THE KINGS ARM SANFORD.

This is quite a pleasant pub by the river (overlooking Sandford lock), serving good food (although beware long waits during busy times). The beer's not up to much, unfortunately. It is probably one of the closest places to the Ozone Leisure Park at which to eat well.
