Linacre College was founded in October 1962. It is named after the outstanding Renaissance figure Thomas Linacre (1460-1524), and began life as a university department for graduate students. Linacre is a graduate only college and currently has around 350 postgraduate students. The current premises are on the corner of St Cross and South Parks Road.

Linacre welcomes students from all backgrounds and subject fields, and has a more diverse multi-cultural community than the older colleges. It is well known for the quality of its food and bops (parties).
