The Oxford Guide - Differences between Version 10 and Version 1 of Perch

Version 10 Version 1

September 2008: Has reopened and will be fully open to the public from Monday 22nd, according to the [http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/headlines/3685629.Perch_reopens_after_blaze/ Oxford Mail].
This is situated in a nice spot accessible by car or a pleasant bike ride or walk from town across [[Port Meadow]]. It has a large garden with tables and a striking street lamp which, situated in the middle of the garden, looked rather like it should lead to a wardrobe.

8th May 2007: A fire broke out in the thatched roof of this pub - don't expect it to be open unless you've checked first. Both the [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/oxfordshire/6637107.stm BBC] and the [http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/1383823.historic_pub_on_fire/ Oxford Mail] websites have reports on this fire.
On a not unreasonably busy Thursday evening the organisation was not particularly good here. A solitary apparently inexperienced staff member behind the bar took an age to serve people and wasn't particularly diligent with filling beer glasses to the brim, remembering orders, etc.

Since September 2006, when The Perch changed hands to new management, this pub has been improved considerably and is now probably one of the best (if not the best) places to eat in Oxford.
The food wasn't arranged particularly well, either; two of the four dishes we ordered were not available. However all four dishes including the substitutions arrived promptly shortly afterwards, and it was nice enough food. When we went back for pudding, we found the kitchen was closed early.

A French/English restaurant with locally supplied produce (you will probably travel further than the food does to get to the table), reasonable prices, a warm friendly bar with chairs and settees and an intimate atmosphere - this place is a true delight.

If you are planning to go for a meal on a weekend
, booking ahead for a table is probably essential. If not eating then the real ale, large garden with children's play area and the walk along the river or across Port Meadow make it definitely worth the trip.

I want to go back to this pub and see if I experienced a bad day. The atmosphere and location of this pub makes it an attractive prospect, and we did all enjoy the overall experience, so I'd like to be able to counter some of the above criticisms in future.
