Redbridge waste recycling centre off Abingdon Road - the "tip" - is the place to take everything that isn't suitable for kerbside rubbish collections, whether unsafe (batteries), not otherwise recycled (Tetrapaks) or simply bulky. |
The council web site is severely lacking in useful information about this place so this entry is rather bare. I won't even start on the supposedly visually-impaired-friendly [http://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/wps/portal/publicsite/kcxml/04_Sj9SPykssy0xPLMnMz0vM0Y_QjzKL94k3Mg8FSZnFO8WHOepHogtZIoR8PfJzU_WD9L31A_QLckMjyh0dFQEnurQ-/delta/base64xml/L3dJdyEvd0ZNQUFzQUMvNElVRS82X01fMU9C?WCM_GLOBAL_CONTEXT=http://apps.oxfordshire.gov.uk/wps/wcm/connect/Internet/Council+services/Environment+and+planning/Waste+and+recycling/ENV+-+WR+-+Recycling+centres Website] |

It's open every day of the week including Sunday. The County Council website says that it's open on bank holidays - this includes Easter but doesn't include Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year's Day. Note that it can get very crowded at weekends. Take your domestic rubbish in a car or use a trailer less than 1.8m long. If you use a van or longer trailer you will likely be turned away, unless you have a permit (obtainable free from Speedwell House). Six large skips are numbered: 1 Cardboard
2 Timber
3 Landfill
4 Landfill
5 Green waste (i.e. garden waste)
6 Metals (including drinks cans but also large items with metal parts) Other sections of the tip are available for all the following:

large electrical appliances (WEEE), e.g. fridges/freezers, PCs, CRT monitors, televisions
bikes and bike parts (refurbished by [[Oxford Cycle Workshop]])
clothing and shoes
light bulbs (including fluorescent tubes)
household batteries
car batteries
glass bottles and jars
drinks cartons (Tetra Paks)
soft plastics (including carrier bags)
paper
gas canisters (e.g. Calor)
engine oil
rubble
This list is up to date as of April 2010 but do check what's accepted before travelling. address='Old Abingdon Road' category='Civic Amenities,Green,Recycling' |
