Summertown Cycles is a bike shop based on Banbury Road, south (towards town) of the main Summertown shops. Although none of our regular contributors have used it, we've heard quite a lot about it from occasional visitors to our site - some love it, while others have been very disappointed. The most objective summary that we've managed to extract from the (often somewhat subjective) views that have been expressed is that if you have any doubts about whether your bike is in good enough condition to survive servicing, you should probably have a chat with the management in advance in order to avoid misunderstandings if anything goes wrong.

They offer a 10% discount for University of Oxford staff (possibly students as well?), and participate in the University Cycle Scheme which makes new bikes affordable (allowing staff members to spread the purchase price over a year and avoid paying any tax on it). Alternately, for parents/ students at Cherwell school, they can donate 10% of your purchase to Cherwell.

Their expansion into what used to be the garden shop next door has increased the range of bicycles and cycling accessories in stock, including lots of helmets.
